In the meantime, start your journey right away with our Top 5 Tips for Overall Hormone Balance.

#1 Stress management – Reducing your stress is by far the most important thing you can do for your hormones, and for your overall health. This isn’t always easy but take an honest look at your priorities and your boundaries to find ways to reduce the amount of stress you experience. Also work on developing habits to release stress on a regular basis such as exercise, meditation or other self-care relaxation practices. Support your adrenal health with vitamin C, a vitamin B complex in the morning, magnesium at night, and consider taking herbal adaptogens such as maca, ashwagandha, rhodiola, holy basil, or siberian ginseng.

#2 Nutrition for balanced blood sugar (PFF meals) – For many hormone imbalances, and to give you steady energy throughout the day, it’s critical to keep your blood sugar balanced. Include “PFF” (quality Protein, good Fats and Fiber) at every meal and snack, eat at regular times, and include lots of plants for a variety of nutrients. Cut back or eliminate caffeine and sugar, and consider an elimination of dairy and gluten, at least as a trial.

#3 Sleep – Your body does the majority of its healing and detoxing while you sleep. Aim for 8-9hrs per night and give yourself a soothing bedtime routine to help your mind and body wind down (rather than “wine” down!). Try cutting out caffeine and alcohol if you are having troubles sleeping, and some people find benefit from magnesium, melatonin, progesterone, GABA, or calming herbs such as lavender, lemon balm, ashwagandha, chamomile, or passionflower.

#4 Fitness – Have you heard that sitting is the new smoking? Some people need more vigorous exercise while others need more gentle movements. Either way, find activities that you enjoy and include some resistance or weight training, as well as balance practice. If you are wiped out after intense cardio, cut back until your body is more rested and feels resilient.

#5 Reduce your toxic load – In our modern world, we are surrounded by many toxins so do what you can to reduce your exposures. Eat organic, avoid plastics, use “green” products for home and body (check out ewg.org for their Skindeep Database) also support your body’s detoxification/elimination by eating plenty of fiber, drinking water and sweating on a regular basis.

These tips should give you a big first step towards restoring your overall hormone balance. If you find that you need help implementing all of this, or if you want to go deeper with lab testing and naturopathic treatments customized to your body’s needs, let’s talk!
